Cutting Technology of Engineering Ceramics

Our ceramic factory is a manufacturer of ceramic parts. Ceramics are typical hard brittle and difficult to machine materials. In practical engineering, the main processing methods are mainly grinding and cutting. Ceramic cutting is usually carried out in the following three situations: precision and ultra precision cutting of ceramic materials, cutting of pre sintered or machinable ceramics, and special cutting of ceramic materials. Except for the above three situations, it is difficult to achieve large material removal of ceramics under ordinary cutting conditions.

For different types of ceramic materials, the corresponding tool materials are also different. The commonly used tool materials in ceramic cutting include hard alloy, ceramics, diamond, and CBN. At present, the ceramic center bar carbide tool is mainly used for the cutting of pre sintered ceramics and machinable ceramics. Ceramic tools are more suitable for the cutting of ceramic green bodies and machinable ceramic materials. Diamond tools are most suitable for the machining of ceramic materials. Single crystal diamond and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) are two common types of diamond tools at present. CBN tools have extremely high thermal stability and can still maintain their hardness at 1000-1500 ℃. Therefore, CBN tools are mainly used for heating assisted cutting of ceramic materials; In addition, CBN tools are also used for cutting glass ceramics and alumina ceramics. In the cutting process of alumina ceramics, in order to reduce the wear of CBN tools and ensure the strength of the cutting edge, a negative rake angle is selected to improve the internal stress state of the tool and avoid edge collapse. Try to choose a larger back angle to reduce wear between the tool and the machined surface. Choosing a negative blade inclination angle is beneficial for enhancing blade strength and improving heat dissipation conditions at the blade tip.

Cutting Characteristics of Engineering Ceramic Materials

There is a significant difference in the cutting characteristics of ceramic materials compared to metal materials. In the cutting process of metal materials, among the three cutting forces, the main cutting force is F. During the cutting process of ceramic materials, the back force Fp is the largest, mainly due to the material characteristics of the ceramic material itself, which increases the difficulty of machining ceramic needle gauges. Both machinable ceramic materials and ordinary structural ceramic materials exhibit severe wear during the cutting process, with varying cutting forces, cutting surfaces, and cutting temperatures. This article mainly discusses the cutting characteristics of ceramic materials from the aspects of tool wear, cutting force, ceramic roller cutting parameters, and cutting temperature during the cutting process, such as Al2O3 ceramics, Si3N4 ceramics, SiC ceramics, ZrO2 ceramics, and AIN ceramics.
