Tape casting method, also known as knife forming method, has become the main molding process of AlN ceramic substrate with high thermal conductivity. There are two kinds of tape casting systems, namely organic casting system and water machine casting system. Compared with the latter, the research on the organic casting system is more widely used earlier, and has the characteristics of a wide range of solvent choices, short drying time, and prevention of powder hydration. However, the commonly used organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones, and benzene have certain Toxicity, damage to the environment, and high cost. In recent years, the water-based tape casting process has received widespread attention, but the problems of low quality, dryness and easy cracking have restricted its development process. However, regardless of the system, the rheological properties of the slurry are undoubtedly one of the most critical factors in the forming process of AlN ceramics.

 

From the perspective of operating cost and sustainable development, the water-based casting system is better, but the easy hydrolysis of AlN powder seriously hinders the development of AlN ceramic water-based casting process, so people will use the surface modification process to improve Hydrolysis resistance and stability of AlN powders.
